Oklahoma City Memorial

"The Gates of Time": Monumental twin bronze gates frame the moment of destruction - 9:02 - and mark the formal entrances to the Outdoor Memorial. 9:01, found on the eastern gate, represents the last moments of peace, while its opposite on the western gate, 9:03, represents the first moments of recovery. Both time stamps are inscribed on the interior of the monument, facing each other and the Reflecting Pool.

|Rhiannon| For what it's worth it was worth all the while. I hope you had the time of your life...

For all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Thanks...it's a very powerful and moving memorial... I hope to see it again the next time I run the Marthon in Oklahoma City--one day!

I've been there, it was so sad!

The pre-race pasta party was actually on the memorial site. At first, I felt a little uneasy about eating on the site where the victims--especially the children--died.

However--we were all served by relatives and friends of the victims. They were serving the food to thank all the runners for coming to the race--held in honor of the tragedy...to remember.

Wow. I had to google this as I didn't know what this was for. It's very beautiful - and I can understand why you felt uneasy about eating there. A little sacriligious perhaps - but it was a lovely touch that the families were there also doing their part. Nice.

... and beautifully captured. :D

Thank you for your commment. And yes--if it wasn't for the fact that 1) we were there (running the race) in memory of the victims and 2) it was with the blessing of the family of the victims... it would have most definitely been "inappropriate."
